Seats On Team Alaska Charter Available for Parents and Friends
The price per seat is $1000.00US. This compares quite favorably with the cost of an airline ticket from any point in Alaska to Grande Prairie. Flying with the team also has the advantage of taking about three hours, more or less, as opposed to an 18-30 hour trip on commercial flights, via Seattle and Edmonton.
Air North - Yukon's Airline - is providing charter service to Team Alaska for the second consecutive Games. There will be 737-200 flights from Fairbanks (one flight) and Anchorage (two flights), and a 40-passenger twin turboprop Hawker-Siddeley flight from Juneau. If demand is sufficient, a second flight may be added from Juneau.
As of December 15, we do not have a definite schedule for the flights. The tentative schedule calls for a flight from Fairbanks on the evening of Friday, March 5, two flights from Anchorage on Saturday, March 6 (morning and afternoon/evening), and a Saturday morning flight from Juneau. However, the final schedule may not look llke this -- this is only a draft!
All passengers will be required to provide complete passport and personal information to Team Alaska as required by Canadian Customs and Immigration. Passports are required for air travel to Canada, and no one will be permitted on the flight without their passport in their possession.
Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The first step is to e-mail a request to hold a seat to the Team Alaska office -- put "Paying Charter Passenger" in the subject line. Once you are on the list, your place on the list will be confirmed upon receipt of the airfare. Payment is accepted in the form of a personal check, although we are working toward an on-line payment solution.
Fill out our Paying Passenger Information Form (click here) and return it with your payment to ensure your seat on the plane.

Please keep these things in mind:
- Our first obligation is to ensure that our athletes, coaches and staff have the best travel arrangements possible. This means that when planning travel, we first optimize our flight schedule based upon getting our athletes and coaches to Grande Prairie in the manner that serves them best.
- Given how we plan travel, we cannot guarantee that you will be on the same aircraft as is the athlete or coach with whom you have a connection. We will try to make this work for as many people as possible, but it is inevitable that some people will not be able to fly on the flight that they would like.
- Once you hit the ground in Grande Prairie, you are 100% on your own for ground transportation, housing, meals, etc. For more information on housing, etc., in Grande Prairie, go to the Host Society web site, or to the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce website for information on housing, car rentals, etc.
- You are also on your own for tickets to the opening and closing ceremonies and sport events and cultural events during the Games. All those tickets are available through the Host Society website. Keep in mind that tickets to the medal rounds or finals in some sports may not be covered by the "SuperPass" ticket.
- You will clear Canada Customs in Grande Prairie upon arrival at the airport there. This is a full customs inspection, so you should prepare in the same way you would prepare to cross any international border and pass through customs. Please be aware that the customs inspectors will know every passenger on each plane, and will have done quick background checks and criminal record checks on most passengers, and will have red-flagged any problems that they see. Some infractions that are not seen as particularly dastardly in the US are enough to keep a person from being admitted to Canada. Contact Canada Customs if you have any questions.
