Team Alaska Wins Hodgson Trophy as Arctic Winter Games Concludes

Team Alaska was awarded the prestigious Hodgson Sportsmanship Trophy at Saturday’s Closing Ceremonies of the 21st biannual Arctic Winter Games in Grande Prairie.  The Hodgson Trophy is the only award besides the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ulu medals awarded in individual and team sporting events.

Alaska Volleyball wins Gold on honor of Coach Liz Hooe

Team Alaska's Junior Women defeated hometown favorite Alberta North to win the Gold Ulu before a packed crowd Friday at Grande Prairie's Maude Clifford Public School.  See story and photos below.

Alaska's Cultural Ambassadors

While Sports is a major focus of the Arctic Winter Games, sharing culture from across the circumpolar north is another key aspect of the Games.  While the indigenous Dene Games and Inuit Games, combine sharing Arctic culture and intense athletic competition, the Cultural Program of Arctic Winter Games is non-competitive and is purely about sharing cultures.

Alaska Speed Skaters take their First Arctic Winter Games Golds

Brian Blackley of Eagle River won two Gold Ulus in Junior Mens' Speed Skating this week - the first ever golds since Alaska started sending speed skaters to Arctic Winter Games in 1996.  See below for story and photos.
