Team Alaska was awarded the prestigious Hodgson Sportsmanship Trophy at Saturday’s Closing Ceremonies of the 21^st biannual Arctic Winter Games in Grande Prairie.  The Hodgson Trophy is the only award besides the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ulu medals awarded in individual and team sporting events.

Team Alaska's Junior Women defeated hometown favorite Alberta North to win the Gold Ulu before a packed crowd Friday at Grande Prairie's Maude Clifford Public School.  See story and photos below.

While Sports is a major focus of the Arctic Winter Games, sharing culture from across the circumpolar north is another key aspect of the Games.  While the indigenous Dene Games and Inuit Games, combine sharing Arctic culture and intense athletic competition, the Cultural Program of Arctic Winter Games is non-competitive and is purely about sharing cultures.

Alaska's Junior Mens' and Womens' Basketball Teams both played tough games and lost to Team NWT (Northwest Territories) in Semifinal play on Friday.  See story and photos below.
